When CAO asked us to redesign the packaging for the Criollo brand, it had a gimmicky "pirate ship" look complete with a printed map on the label and mini drawers in the wooden box. In our redesign, we preserved the proportion of the box,the existing logo and its swashbuckling mystique- but simplified the box into a flap closure, added a brown leather strap closure and an enameled metal logo plate. With some cleaver use of living hinges and gold stamping, we simultaneously added gravitas to the brand and lowered the client's packaging budget.
